ACCESS Development - Over 13 Years of Empowerment

Established in March 2006, as a professional new generation agency that strives to contribute to, and support poverty reduction throughout India.

Access is the global partner of choice providing inclusive and innovative livelihood solutions enabling the poor to overcome poverty and live with dignity. To build the capacity of community-based institutions that deliver relevant financial and livelihood development services to the poor and unreached households.

ACCESS is known for constantly reinventing itself, once every while, to remain fresh and relevant. It helps in reinvigorating the internal environment as well. ACCESS has rightly chosen to focus on the farm sector that entails organising small producers for sourcing inputs and services on fair terms and link up with value chains to realise higher value for produce.

Women's Empowerment in India

The land of 497 million.

The great nation of India, a landmass that holds all 1.34 billion of us on its back; but only comprises of only 497 million women.

Time and again, evidence illustrates that advancing women's economic empowerment has had a multiplying effect across the spectrum of both developmental and is central to achieving gender equality. With an income of their own, our women have increased status, are able to provide for their families and have become empowered in other parts of their lives such as education, housing, food choices and medical care.

However women across india, especially those belonging to rural and disadvantaged communities, still cannot fully exercise their rights to decent work and full and productive employment. Unleashing the entrepreneurial spirit and leadership of women provides a unique opportunity to dismantle some of these barriers. By setting up and managing a business women can achieve economic independence overcome poverty though asset building and improve their well being as well as that of their families and communities. Empowering rural women financially also results in lesser migration to urban india.

All though research confirms that women led or focused enterprises are successful for the empowerment of women they still face many limitations like significant barriers in relation to access to loans and credit; skills; development; discrimination and balancing familial and societal commitments. Therefore a gender responsive entrepreneurial ecosystem needs to be created, that enables women led enterprises to access resources and support needed to develop their business scale up and make them sustainable.

Harnessing the full potential of women would have positive impact on the national GDP.
